Essential Items List for Hamster Raising
1. Basic Living Environment

Cage
Dwarf Hamsters: Minimum size of 47cm × 30cm (length × width)
Syrian Hamsters: Require a larger space; 60cm or more in length is recommended
Recommended Materials: Wire cages (excellent ventilation) or acrylic cages (prevent foot entrapment)
Avoid These: Small cages or cages with complex tube systems, as they easily cause stress to hamsters
Bedding
Use dust-free wood shavings or paper-based bedding, laid 5–15cm thick (to satisfy the hamster’s natural burrowing instinct)
Replace 1–2 times a week to keep it dry
2. Diet and Health
Main Food
Professional mixed food (containing grains, seeds, and a small amount of protein)
Recommended Brands: Versele-Laga, BUCATSTATE, Harry, etc.
Supplementary Food
Small amounts of fresh vegetables (carrots, broccoli) and cooked egg whites
Taboos: Chocolate, onions, citrus fruits, and high-sugar fruits
Water Supply
Use a ball water bottle (125ml capacity) and change the water daily
3. Exercise and Grooming
Exercise Wheel
Dwarf Hamsters: Wheel diameter ≥ 17cm
Syrian Hamsters: Wheel diameter ≥ 21cm
Choose a quiet, fully enclosed model (to prevent foot entrapment)
Sand Bath
Provide a dedicated sand bath container; hamsters will groom themselves (do not bathe hamsters in water)
4. Safety and Comfort
Hideout
Ceramic or wooden shelters to provide a sense of security
Teething Tools
Apple sticks or teething stones (to prevent overgrown teeth)
Temperature Control
Optimal temperature range: 18–26°C
Use ceramic plates for cooling in summer and add thicker bedding for warmth in winter
5. Notes
Solo Housing
Hamsters are territorial and will fight; each hamster must be kept in its own cage!
Interaction Tips
Let the hamster get familiar with your scent before attempting to pick it up
Avoid sudden grasping, as it may frighten the hamster
