How to raise a black bear hamster?

The breeding methods for black bear hamsters mainly include the following aspects:

  Environmental Requirements:

Cage Size: Black bear hamsters are relatively large in size and need a larger space for activities. It is recommended to use a basic cage that is at least 60 centimeters long, which can ensure that they have enough room to move around.

Temperature and Humidity: The suitable temperature range is between 18 °C and 26 °C, and the humidity should be kept at 30% - 40%. In summer, you can place heat dissipation plates, and in winter, you need to cover part of the cage to keep it warm.

  Diet Management:

Staple Food: Various weed seeds and grains are their main food sources, and they will occasionally hunt insects. In the case of artificial breeding, you can feed them raw sunflower seeds, peanuts, fruits, mealworms, raw corns, and so on.

Snacks and Fruits: You can appropriately feed them small snacks like mealworms and cheese pellets, as well as fruits and vegetables such as apples, green dates, cucumbers, broccoli, and radishes. However, it should be noted that cooked food, roasted sunflower seeds, and fruits and vegetables with high water content are not suitable for feeding.

Drinking Water: Adequate and clean drinking water needs to be provided. You can use a special water dispenser and avoid using bowl-shaped containers, because hamsters may tip them over.

  Health Care:

Cleaning: Change the bedding regularly. In summer, you can use corn kernels or ryegrass cat litter, and in winter, materials like wood shavings and paper cotton can be used.

Exercise: Provide enough running wheels for them to exercise. Avoid using running wheels that are too small, because black bear hamsters are large in size and small running wheels are not suitable for them.

Tooth Grinding: Provide tooth grinding stones or tooth grinding sticks to prevent their teeth from growing too long.

  Training and Interaction:

Training: Basic training can be carried out by feeding snacks, such as going to the toilet at a fixed point and following simple commands. Start with simple commands at the beginning and gradually increase the difficulty.

Interaction: Feed them regularly every day and call their names to gradually make them get used to your presence. Avoid forced contact to prevent arousing their vigilance and resistance.
